UPDATE 8/27/26: Since I originally posted this review, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that an investigation found wage and tip violations at Umami Japanese Bistro. Servers were required to share tips with non-tipped kitchen staff, resulting in more than $66,000 in back wages and $7,450 in improperly diverted tips being returned to affected employees.

My original review below reflects the restaurant and restroom experience we personally had before this information became public. However, I would not feel right leaving a recommendation here without acknowledging what has since been reported: A February trip to Baton Rouge for “framily” time ended with a stop at Umami Sushi on the way home. This was a great idea!

The food was excellent, the atmosphere was lively. Yes it was a little loud, but the place was packed, so I’m willing to forgive it. 😂

Now onto the important part…

The 🚽 restrooms were clean, well stocked, and roomy. Nothing over the top, but everything was exactly where it needed to be and well maintained.

Sometimes dependable is enough to earn a very respectable score.
